The International Scientific and Practical Conference “The renaissance of the pilgrim tourism in the crossroads of the Great Silk Road” kicked off in the city of Samarkand on May 24, 2019. The event is organized by the State Committee for Tourism Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University and the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism.
Acting Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ablulaziz Akkulov addressed the conference.
In recent years, among tourists visiting Uzbekistan, the number of tourists from Muslim countries has sharply increased. So in 2018, compared with 2017, we can observe an increase in the number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan from Muslim countries, including Malaysia (+ 66%) and Indonesia (+ 88%).
In 2018, Turkey (4.1299), Pakistan (5568), Malaysia (2768), Iran (2658), Indonesia (1589) and the United Arab Emirates (1580) lead in terms of the number of tourist arrivals from Muslim countries. Citizens of these countries, along with other types of tourism, visit Uzbekistan in the direction of pilgrim tourism.
The goal of the conference is restoration of pilgrim tourism in the city of Samarkand, which is rich in rare, religious tourism resources and is a tourist center, as well as development of practical, scientific and methodological proposals for its further development.
The event is attended by leading experts in tourism, scientists and leaders of travel organizations from China, Russia, France, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries.
As reported by the Press Service of the State Committee for Tourism Development, more than a hundred scientists, researchers and specialists are expected to address the conference.
