On February 28, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev became familiar with activities carried out at Turakurgan Thermal Power Plant.
Over the years, electricity supply problems have been observed in Fergana valley. In this regard, construction of a thermal power plant based on modern technologies has begun in Turakurgan district. Commissioning of this station with a capacity of 900 MW will make it possible to fully meet the population’s and industry’s need for electricity.
The total cost of the project is more than 1 billion 195 million USD. It is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and JSC Uzbekenergo. The station is being built by Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems.
To date, the main power generating units – the first and second transformer units, combined-cycle turbine, and others have been installed. Activities on construction of external communications, water supply network have been completed. The facility will be supplied with gas through Sokh – Namangan main gas pipeline, technical water from the Grand Namangan Canal.
The first combined-cycle plant is scheduled to be commissioned in September this year, the second – in December. As a result, an additional 6.7 billion kW/hours of electricity will be generated annually for the needs of Fergana valley. 300 people will be provided with jobs.
Most importantly, the electricity produced here at cost will be cheaper than the energy generated by other TPPs.
The Head of the state was provided with information on activities implemented at the TPP, technical and economic indicators of the facility.
The President noted that this project is of great strategic importance, the station will serve to further enhance the economic potential of the region and ensure reliable electricity supply to the population.
Instructions were given on successful launch and operation of the TPP, preparation of highly qualified specialized personnel for this purpose.
