The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev solemnly opened a Monument to the great son of the Uzbek people, poet and thinker Mir Alisher Navoi in the city of Astana.
The President of Uzbekistan, expressing sincere gratitude for Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to install a Monument to Alisher Navoi, noted that the construction of a majestic monument in the very center of the capital of Kazakhstan is a vivid confirmation of the Kazakh people’s deep respect for fraternal Uzbekistan.
“The creative heritage of the great philosopher and humanist Alisher Navoi is a unique wealth that belongs not only to the Uzbek people, but to the whole world. Navoi’s works were translated into Italian and German in the 16th century, and today, they are heard in almost all languages of the world. For centuries, his work, a kind of encyclopedia of life, has delighted and inspired millions of people”, the President of Uzbekistan noted.
The main merit of Alisher Navoi is that he became the founder of Uzbek literature and the creator of the literary Uzbek language.
The great son of the Kazakh people and the classic of Kazakh literature, Abay Kunanbayev, whose monument adorns one of the central squares of Tashkent, considered Alisher Navoi to be his teacher, along with other great poets of the East.
The work of Navoi and Abay is poetry of eternity, friendship, love, and loyalty. Their philosophical thoughts are invaluable assets in the spiritual development of the nation.
In 2020, the late Kazakh poet Nesipbek Aituly translated and published Alisher Navoi’s most important work, “Khamsa” (“Quinary”), in Kazakh. The preface to this book was personally written by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
“I am confident that the Monument to Alisher Navoi will become another bright symbol of the strengthening friendship and brotherhood between the peoples of the two countries, and his legacy will inspire many more generations to great achievements”, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized in conclusion.
