Meeting of the Central Election Commission

The Central Election Commission has convened for a regular session. The meeting was chaired by the CEC chief M.Abdusalomov.

Members of the Commission discussed the issue related to the establishment of the Republican Press Center for the cover of 2014 elections. In order to prepare for the forthcoming elections and their organized conduct with adherence to the principles of publicity, create necessary conditions to the representatives of national and foreign mass media for them to cover the process of preparations for elections and the course of elections, and securing the timely reception and dissemination of information, in accordance with Laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the Openness of Activities of Government and Management Bodies, as well as other legislative acts, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Republican Press Center for the cover of elections 2014.

The press center has been tasked, as the definition of one of its principal objectives suggests, with supplying the representatives of local and foreign media with official data and information materials related to the preparation and conduct of elections. The Republic Press Center for the cover of elections 2014 has been housed in the building of the National Press Center of Uzbekistan at: 16, Navoi Street, Tashkent. Necessary conditions have been created in the facility for the professional work of journalists to cover all the stages of the electoral process in domestic and foreign mass media.

Representatives of media willing to cover the course of elections should get accredited at the Central Election Commission in a due procedure. The accreditation procedure can be learned on the CEC’s official website at www.elections.uz. Accredited journalists are going to have an opportunity to attend briefings and press conferences held by the Central Election Commission.

The CEC meetings participants also considered the course of execution of the Action Plan for the preparations and conduct of elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional, district and municipal Kengashes (Councils) of people’s representatives in 2014. It was stressed that all the actions as part of the implementation of this Plan are carried out in strict compliance with requirements of the electoral legislation.

Other issues pertinent to the Commission’s powers were also discussed at the meeting.
