On 29-30 January 2016, Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Labor and social protection of population of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a workshop within the joint project for “Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Shahrisabz City and Consulting on Capacity Building of Vocational Education in Uzbekistan”.
The workshop was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Labor and social protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nizamov B.M., KOICA Uzbekistan Office Director Im Jeong Hee, experts of Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET), Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), as well as local experts in vocational training from the Ministry of Labor, CSSVE, CCI and other agencies and institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The goal of the workshop was to identify the challenges and shortcomings of the current vocational training system as well as to develop the master plan of the project for consulting on capacity building of vocational education in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the workshop it was noted that without a continuous reforming and modernization of vocational education, the creation of vocational training centers does not guarantee the long-term prospects. A development of more efficient and sustainable system of vocational training is necessary.
By the results of the workshop the Korean experts will select local project consultants (LPCs). Within two years the LPCs will closely work with the above-mentioned Korean institutions for the development of vocational training system of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In his opening speech, the First Deputy Minister of Labor and social protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nizamov B.M. stated the following: “Uzbekistan and South Korea are time-tested reliable strategic partners and the cooperation between the countries is developing in all areas. In 2012 a Centre for vocational education launched in Tashkent, and nowadays we have the signed intergovernmental agreements for the establishment of vocational training centers in the cities of Samarkand and Shakhrisabz. We highly value our relationships and look forward to increase the cooperation. We will support initiatives that provide the necessary conditions for a dynamic and comprehensive development of our countries.”
