Delegation of Uzbekistan participates in OIC Council of Foreign Ministers session

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in 44th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) on July 10-11, 2017. The press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.

After the report on the results of the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in 2016-2017, which was held under the motto “Education and enlightenment – the path to peace and creation”, there was a ceremony of the official transfer of the chairmanship for 2017-2018 to the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.

Delegations of OIC member states discussed topical issues of the organization’s activities and adopted resolutions on political, legal, organizational, socio-economic and cultural-humanitarian issues.

On the initiative of Uzbekistan, supported by other countries, special resolutions “On the International Research Center of Imam al-Bukhari in the city of Samarkand” and “On establishment of the Special Department of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO) at the Tashkent Islamic University” were adopted. Thus, OIC Council of Foreign Ministers again approved the proposals of the head of our state Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In the speeches of the Secretary-General Yusuf bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, heads of the delegation of the member states of the organization, special attention was paid to successful outcome of 43rd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent and Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in 2016-2017 as a whole.

In particular, Unit for Work with Youth was established to implement the decisions taken in the OIC General Secretariat on the initiative of the Uzbek side.

In a speech of the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Dramane Ouattara at the session, the motto of the Ivorian chairmanship “Youth, peace and development in a solidary world” was put forward, which is a logical continuation of the initiatives during the Uzbek presidency.

During the 44th session, new members of the Independent Permanent Commission on Human Rights of the OIC were elected. From our country, the director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the chairman of the Committee on Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Self-government Bodies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Akmal Saidov was elected as a member of the commission for a three-year period.

During the visit to Côte d’Ivoire, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan met and held bilateral talks with the Secretary General of the OIC Yusuf bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment of the United Arab Emirates Thani Bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sartaj Aziz, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, ISESCO Director of External Relations and Cooperation Ahmed Ould Bah.

The sides discussed the state and prospective directions for development of cooperation in various fields at the meetings.
