Tashkent hosted a soccer tournament between the teams of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in our country, as well as the team of national partners of this structure in the country.

A friendly meeting was a continuation of a series of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of UNDP and the 23-rd anniversary of the collaboration of this structure with the Uzbek partners.

At the end of the event the correspondent of “Jahon” Information Agency talked with the UN Resident Coordinator in the country, the permanent representative of the UN Development Programme Stefan Prisner. Representative noted that the structure was created in 1966 by the merger of the United Nations Special Fund and the Expanded Support program. Working in 170 countries, today, UNDP plays an important role in addressing the pressing issues of global and national development.

– In Uzbekistan, our office is operating since 1993. We assist countries in mobilizing resources to achieve development goals, addressing socio-economic and environmental issues.

I want to note that to date, working with 35 ministries and departments of Uzbekistan, UNDP has implemented more than 200 projects. Over 30 projects are under implementation.

In this context, holding friendly match gives the opportunity not only to emphasize the importance of such a large date as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Development Programme, but also to express our gratitude to the national partners for long-term fruitful cooperation.

The Representative take this opportunity to express the hope that football in Uzbekistan will continue its development.
