Since gaining independence, Uzbekistan has gone through a complex path of becoming a new, sovereign state. Independent branches of state power were created, state institutions were formed, and the foundations for the formation of civil society were laid within this relatively short period.
A lot has been achieved in terms of strengthening the defense capability, establishing the financial and economic system, restoring historical values, reviving the rich cultural heritage and national identity. As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted, all this became possible “thanks to a resolute will and enormous potential of our courageous and noble people”
However, time does not stand still, and today Uzbekistan faces new goals and objectives, the achievement of which should further increase the level of people’s well-being and contribute to the deepening of democratic reforms in the country. That is why it can be said that the course for large-scale reforms announced by the President and aimed at elevating the country’s development to a new, higher level, is an objective necessity and should be considered the most important strategic task.
We can already see the huge positive transformations in almost all aspects of the life of our society. The reforms affected the spheres of education, healthcare, law enforcement, social protection, and many others. President also pays particular attention to fighting corruption and enhancing the role of the media. Due to the activities conducted within the framework of the Action Strategy, the primary goal of which is to build the New Uzbekistan and create the foundation of the Third Renaissance, the living standards of people are growing, the degree of coverage of young people with education is progressing and the system of medical care is improving all over the country. Thanks to a competent policy, and significant reforms in the financial and monetary sphere, Uzbekistan’s cooperation with foreign countries has reached a completely new level. A far-sighted foreign policy has turned Uzbekistan into an active participant in political processes in the region and the world, and reforms in the field of human rights protection have been recognized by the world community as extremely effective.
In a historically short period of five years, significant results have been achieved in almost all areas, and as follows from the President’s statements, this is only the beginning of a long journey to reform the state in accordance with the interests of the nation.
Measures to fulfill the six tasks identified by Shavkat Mirziyoyev as priorities at the current stage of the country’s development and including favorable social policy, support for economic development, entrepreneurship, agriculture, protection of the health and life of the population and support for the spiritual and educational sphere, will certainly contribute to further growth in the pace of the country’s development and the well-being of its people.
