CIS Heads of States hold narrow format meeting

Ashgabat hosted the meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The meeting, chaired by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was attended by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.

Leaders of the countries held talks in a narrow format. Issues of further strengthening cooperation within the Commonwealth, improvement of the activity of this international structure were discussed, views were exchanged on regional and international issues.

Addressing the event, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the need for expanding multilateral cooperation and drew special attention to promising areas of cooperation within the Commonwealth.

Uzbekistan considers the CIS as an effective platform for deepening practical partnership, primarily in developing trade and economic ties, promoting joint projects in various industries, unlocking transport and logistics and transit potential, strengthening security, cultural and humanitarian exchange. In recent years, the participation of Uzbekistan in the organization has intensified significantly. This year, Uzbekistan hosted many CIS events.

The Decision on Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in 2020 was unanimously supported at the meeting.
