Today, 27 June, the President of Uzbekistan congratulated the press and media representatives, the presidential press service reported.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your professional holiday – the Day of press and media workers. Let me express you my sincere respect and wish you success in your difficult and noble activity.
We all know well that your work has always been difficult and responsible. This responsibility is even greater today, when our country is at a new stage of development, openness, publicity and freedom of speech are becoming the musts of life,” the president said.
The president said that the modern world is changing rapidly. Competition, as in all spheres, is also intensifying in the area of receiving and disseminating information and forming public opinion. In such difficult conditions, life poses all new and new challenges.
“Today, our most important task is preparation for the media, which is becoming more operational and multifunctional, modern personnel with active civil positions, able to withstand fierce competition in the global media space. I am sure that the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan, which we established for this very purpose, will become the basic higher education institution of the republic for training personnel, who not only have the knowledge and skills necessary for this profession, but also have creative thinking, are fluent in information technology and foreign languages,” the president said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again reminded that various disputes and debates on the information field, first of all, should be based on reliable facts and objectivity, take place within the framework of the law and ethical standards, and not for the purposes of personal gain or personal revenge, self-promotion.
“We must not allow humiliation of the person, insults to the honor and dignity of a person. There is no space in our media for such negative phenomena. I think that you, dear representatives of the media, who put the interests of the people and the Motherland above all, realize this truth deeper than anyone else.
I want to emphasize once again that enormous changes in our life today, the very logic of the reforms being implemented, require all of us to work in a new way and put forward new promising ideas and initiatives.
We will definitely continue to work consistently to strengthen the guarantees of freedom of the media, assess decently and encourage the difficult work of journalists, establish democratic principles, pluralism of opinions in our society,” he said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished the press and media workers good health, new creative successes, peace and prosperity.
