On April 11, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the U.S. delegation led by the Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad.
According to Uzbekistan MFA, during the conversation, the sides exchanged views on Afghanistan situation and prospects for starting a peace process in the country.
As it was noted, the settlement of long-standing Afghan conflict is possible only through peaceful negotiations between the warring parties. This key provision was initiated and recorded in the text of Tashkent Declaration on Afghanistan, adopted by representatives of leading world powers and countries of the region based on consensus.
In this context, the parties discussed priority areas of Uzbekistan – American cooperation, as well as proposals for practical cooperation in constriction of major socio-economic facilities and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, which will allow the country to develop peacefully and steadily, to become an organic part of political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian space of Central Asia.
Other issues of international and regional problems were also discussed at the meeting.
Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatilla Irgashev attended the meeting.
