The Heart of Domestic Industry
It stands to reason that power is often interpreted as the heart of the industrial production. In the age of advanced technologies, automated conveyors and equipment, an uninterrupted supply of energy is vital for the efficiency of enterprises.
Experts note that when foreign investors are planning to open a manufacture, they are sure to study if the region and its territory are secured by the relevant infrastructure and communications. This is understandable, because without electricity even a most advanced plant would stand idle. Therefore, Uzbekistan has been paying close attention to the upgrade of generating capacities and network economy, and involvement of the latest technologies, equipment and leading foreign partners.
Last year, power plants of Uzbekenergo produced about 55 billion KW / h of electricity with a growth rate of 2.3%. The indicators exemplify intensive implementation of investment projects aimed at technological extension of the sector. Some of them are fairly unique not just for the country, but for the entire Central Asian region.
In 2014, the company implemented 28 large investment projects and completed the construction of nine power plants. One of the most important projects envisaged the commissioning of power transmission lines with a total length 1,240 km, and installation of about 1,000 sets of transformer substations, which should provide a guaranteed supply of energy to the population and industrial sector in different regions of the country.
The projects on introduction of new hign-efficiency power generation technologies with the construction of combined-cycle and gas turbines have been continued. As part of the construction of combined-cycle plants at Talimarjan and Tashkent TPPs shell and core works on industrial sites were completed.
Uzbekenergo specialists have been implementing a range of projects on gradual upgrade of existing hydroelectric power plants. For example, last year, the hydraulic unit № 2 at Charvak HPP was upgraded through the replacement of an impeller. That has increased the plant’s capacity by 15 MW, and enhanced its reliability.
In order to diversify the energy balance through alternative energy the company has been working on the construction of 100 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in the Samarkand region. To date, technical bids for a general contractor for the construction of the station have been completed. The South Korea grant funds have enabled the launch of a pilot solar photovoltaic plant in Pap District of Namangan Region.
Several projects on the introduction of solar collectors for hot «water supply at the facilities of main electric networks of Uzelektroset and at the enterprises of territorial electric networks are underway.
As part of localization and import substitution program two joint ventures were established on the territory of Jizzakh SIZ: Kuyosh Issiqlik Energiyasi JV is engaged in the production of solar water heating systems with the output of 50,000 units per year, and Yorkin Chiroklar JV specializes on the production of energy-saving LED lighting products with an annual capacity of 2.5 million LED bulbs.

Uzbek Opera Star Takes on New Role as Author
Uzbek opera star Muyassar Razzakova has authored a music textbook titled ‘Introduction to Basic Academic Singing’, published by Sharq publishing house.
A graduate of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek singer’s artistic pathway has been linked with the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theater since 1988. Razzakova has scored numerous victories at prestigious national and international competitions and has toured a number of countries across the world. She has performed virtually all soprano parts of classical national and international operas.
Presently, the decorated opera singer, who has been awarded the ‘Buyuk hizmatlari uchun’ (For Outstanding Services) medal and holds the title of People’s Artist of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan, heads the department of academic singing and operatic training at the Conservatory. Recently, she has been given the title of professor.
“While training would-be singers, I realized that not all the students are able to overcome the barrier they face while trying to perform Uzbek national and Italian bel canto pieces,” Razzakova says. “So, I hit upon the idea of writing a book because individual lessons alone would not solve the problem. My book provides convenient and simple explanations of singing techniques as well as tips. I am now working on another edition, which will focus on the basics of academic singing in an in-depth format,” she added.
“Performing arts are considered to be a form of intellectual property globally. Exchange of information and experience occurs during classes,” says Dilora Muradova, a professor at the Conservatory. “The new book provides practical answers to so many questions arising in the process of instruction>”
“This book is an artistic portrait of Muyassar herself,” says Andrei Slonim, a director and stage designer at the Alisher Navoi Theater and a prominent culture professional. “She learned bel canto singing skills from prominent singer Rozalinda Laut, who helped her reach a high-class academic singing level, while another famous performer, Saodat Kabulova, turned her to distinctive features of national repertoire. I am convinced that new generations of young performers will benefit immensely from her teaching endeavors and creativity alike.”
