President of the Republic of Uzbekistan received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

On April 27, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of this country, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. This is reported by the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Welcoming the guest, the Head of the state emphasized that this meeting is another evidence of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, dynamically developing in recent years and based on principles of friendship, partnership and mutual support, as well as the common history and religion, closeness of traditions and spiritual values.

Intensification of political contacts at various levels was emphasized. Trade and economic cooperation expanded: mutual trade is growing, companies and entrepreneurs of the two countries are preparing and implementing joint projects in the sphere of agricultural machinery, pharmaceutical, textile, leather, food and other industries. The Uzbekistan – Pakistan Business Council began its work.

Since April of the last year, Tashkent – Lahore – Tashkent flights of Uzbekistan Airways have been resumed.

Cultural-humanitarian and tourist exchanges are developing, including within the framework of pilgrimage tourism program to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation, including in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-communication and other fields.

Prospects for cooperation in military and military-technical spheres, current aspects of countering modern challenges and threats to security and stability in the region, as well as peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan were discussed.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed deep gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings on behalf of the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain.

He highly appreciated the reforms being carried out by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on modernization of the Armed Forces and strengthening the country’s defense capability.

Full support of practical results of the International Conference on Afghanistan, held in Tashkent in March this year, was expressed.

Following the meeting, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan reaffirmed the readiness of the Pakistani side to further expand and strengthen full-scale cooperation.
