External lighting systems will be radically upgraded in 28 regional centers and cities of the country.
The program on modernization of outdoor lighting systems is designed for 2020. It envisages the replacement of obsolete energy intensive lamps with energy-saving LED lighting fixtures.
According to estimates, the works will be carried out on nearly 3,000 km of streets, specialists will replace more than 82,000 outdated fixtures. The total cost of the projects on modernization of external lighting in 28 cities amounts to 84.8 billion soums, of which 24 billion soums will be allocated this year. The projects are funded through the government budget.
According to experts, the program would significantly improve quality of outdoor street lighting, thereby creating favorable conditions for urban living. It is expected to reduce electrical energy consumption for outdoor lighting by nearly 30,000 kilowatt-hours per year, and the state budget expenditures for this purpose, respectively.
The implementation of the project on introduction of energy efficient technologies in street lighting systems jointly with the Islamic Development Bank is currently underway in Tashkent, and is scheduled to be completed this year. The IDB has allocated a $36 million loan for its implementation.
The project envisages replacement of about 120,000 obsolete fixtures with advanced energy efficient ones. It is also planned to introduce an automated system of remote outdoor lighting control.
